Bessie Mae Freeman Teague, 80, of North Turkey Creek Road, Leicester, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Grady and Euffie Wright Freeman and step-daughter of the late Annie Surrett Freeman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dennis "Boots" Teague, who died in 1993 and by a son, Sherrill Grady Teague. She was of the Baptist faith. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by five children, Carolyn Clark and husband Jerry, Ruby Teague of the home, Tommy Dale Teague and wife Darlene, Wanda Ball and husband Larry, Sheila Fowler and husband Larry; sister, Deffie Brittain and brother, Charlie Freeman; three grandchildren, Sheena Turbyfill and husband Elbert Sutton, Dustin Teague and wife Jessi and April Teague; two great-grandchildren, Morgan Moore and Haleigh Teague. Funeral services will be 6:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Ralph Reemes and Bill Brown officiating. Burial will be 2:00 pm Sunday at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of Sheila and Larry Fowler.

  1. When i was growing up I was bounced around a lot but a special place for me was at ‘Aunt Bessie and Uncle Boots house’. I have so many great memories of Aunt Bessie being like a second Mom to me. As i write this a hundred memories of Working in the Mater patch, working tobacco, putting up hay, going coon hunting and eating Aunt Bessie’s pancakes flood my mind. What a wonderful and loving Aunt. I will miss and cherish her always. Tommy Dale, Carolyn, Wanda, Ruby and Shelia, My thoughts and prayers are with you. I send all my Love.

I know you will miss her so much.
