Betty Lou Morris Warren, 88, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025.
She was one of twelve children of the late Roy J. Morris and Fontella House Morris and in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Manson Warren.
Betty had a love and a talent for many things – Her first love was to her Lord and Savior and she was a long-standing member of Davis Chapel Baptist Church where her late husband served as pastor for over 40 years and she as a Sunday School teacher and pianist. She continued to play the piano for church services long after her husband passed away. She loved her family, and the depth for her love of her children and grandchildren knew no bounds.
She retired from Pisgah Elementary School in Buncombe County after many years teaching “her kids”. She was a caring and giving person, and took a special interest in each of her students every year. She was so well thought of by her former students, two of them preached her husband’s funeral when he passed away a few years later.
She had a special love for Gospel Music and one of the delights of her life was to gather round the piano with family and friends as she played. Her beautiful alto voice could always harmonize with any other person singing. If you could hum a few bars, Betty could play it!
She was a very talented artist and enjoyed “dabbling” at her easel to paint all the natural things surrounding her beautiful Western North Carolina. Her absence will be felt in a big way by her family, her church and her community but we rejoice knowing that she is in the presence of her Lord and is no longer suffering.
In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was predeceased in death by five sisters: Louise Morris Fisher, Pauline Morris McHone, Kathleen Morris Dickerson, Helen Morris Ward and Clara Mae Morris Edwards; four brothers: James Ferrell Morris, LeRoy Morris, Gordon Morris and Phillip Morris.
She is survived by her three sons Andy Warren and his wife, Rhonda, Michael Warren and his wife, Teresa, and David Warren and his wife Susie; two daughters Renee Sinkovich and her husband Joe, and Cheyenne Warren; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; her sister, Jean Morris Overby, her brother, James (Jimmy) Morris and many nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m., in the Patton Ave. Chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Davis Baptist Church, 217 Big Branch Road, Marshall, NC 28753
