Beulah McCulloch Galloway, 88, formerly of Woodside Hills, Enka, died Thursday, July 19, 2007, in a Hendersonville Health Care Center. A native of Spartanburg County, SC, she lived most of her life in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Graham and Lettie Lentz McCulloch. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William R. “Bill” Galloway, who died in 1984 and by a son, Bob Gatlin, who died in 1994. Mrs. Galloway and her husband were former co-owners of Starnes Cove Grocery. She was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was one of the founders of the Oak Hill UMC Quilting Group. Surviving are two daughters, Judy Stroupe and her husband, John, and Sharon Ashe and her husband, Bruce, all of Hendersonville; a daughter-in-law, JoAnne Gatlin of Lexington, VA; a sister, Rachel Hipps of Candler; a brother, Harry McCulloch of Asheville; six grandchildren, Barry Stroupe, Denise Gonce, Kim Troise, Andrea Stinnette, Graham Ashe and Price Ashe and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Sunday at Oak Hill United Methodist Church with the Reverend Wes Austin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with grandsons and Stony Gonce, Joe Troise, Dave Stinnette and Bob Jamerson serving as pallbearers. Her family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

  1. Remembering the smell of fresh mowed grass as we drove up the gravel drive for the annual reunion. ‘Boots’ ready smile as she greeted us at the door. What a gentile lady who was filled with such grace and love for her God, church and family. I am proud to have been a grand-niece.

  9. i knew beulah as a customer at j&s cafeteria. she was a very special person and i’m so proud to have known her.i considered her to be my friend and i will miss her so very much. my prayers are with all of you.she was a special lady.

    How quickly the years passed. Mrs. Boots was like my second mom for so many years. I loved her dearly. I know you will deeply miss her but she is in a wonderful place.
