Arden – Retired Captain Bill Green went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 8, 2009. He was preceded in death by his father, Ellis C. Green, his mother, Inez M. Green Protas and his stepfather Stan Protas.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Ada Seay Green "Peggy"; two sons, Gary Green of Elizabethton, TN, Richard Green "Dickie" and his wife Sandy of Fletcher; two daughters, DeLona Osborne and her husband Robie of Elizabethton, TN and Beth Herndon and her husband David of Forest City. He is also survived by loving grandchildren (9), great-grandchildren (19), great great-grandchildren (6), and a very special brother in law, Douglas Seay; caregivers, Ginger, Angie, Martha and his special pet, Miss Maggie, his Scotty.
Bill spent 56 years of his life in Public Service touching countless lives. He served under five different Buncombe County Sheriffs. His early years were spent working for the U.S. Wildlife Service and the fire departments of Asheville and Brevard. His love for community relations was the highlight of his career. He served two terms in the National Guard in the "Old Hickory" Division. His love for people and being able to help the individuals he met over his lifetime made him the memorable person that he was. He had many special people in his life of which he cherished, Betty Donoho and Rev. James Grant, to name a few. Bill touched many lives with his kind ways and unselfish deeds. He had many famous friends that came to Western North Carolina with the Western Film Festival of which was one of his great hobbies.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Reverend James Grant and Chaplain Richard Baird officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

I am so sorry about Bill, it was a great day when Guy introduced me to the both of you. Bill had a way of making you feel so comfortable and I am sure Guy will miss the friendly bickering between them. I know how much you will miss him but he has left behind a legacy of friends including myself who will be there for you whenever you need us.Don’t forget Maggie May how much she loves you both and she will need you even more now.
