Blake Penland, Jr., 81, of Candler, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at The Oaks of Brevard.
A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late Walter Blake and Lois Wright Penland. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Nash Penland, and a son, Kevin Penland.
Mr. Penland was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by daughters Rena Simmons and husband Gene of TN, Darlene Henson and husband Dale of Candler, and Lia Banks and Drew Freiberger of Candler; son Tracy Penland and wife Sheila of Candler; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jack Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
