Bruce Colon Goforth, 80, of McDowell Road died Sunday, July 29, 2012, at the Elizabeth House. A native of Madison County, Bruce was son of the late Walter and Estelle Frye Goforth and was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Goforth. Bruce worked at Ecusta retiring after forty years of service. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Fanning Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a master gardener and was a member of many horticultural societies. He also volunteered many hours at the N.C. State Arboretum. Bruce is survived by his wife, Bobbie Watson Goforth; two daughters, Kathy Diggs and her husband, Whit of Toccoa, Georgia and Robin Britt of Mills River; a sister, Barbara Banks of Asheville and two brothers, Walter Goforth, Jr. of Knoxville and Howard Goforth of Fairview. Bruce is also survived by three grandchildren, Kimberly Souther, Colby and Kyle Britt. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Fanning Chapel United Methodist Church with the Reverend Glenda W. Edney officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. The family graciously asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Fanning Chapel United Methodist Church 5490 Old Haywood Road, Mills River, N.C. 28742 or to Four Seasons Hospice 571 S. Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731.

  3. I worked together with Bruce on new cigarette products at Ecusta for almost 40 years. His character and quality judgement helped make many sucessful new products possible. It was always a pleasure to be around Bruce and work with him.
