Carl Wayne Britt
March 18, 1969 ~ December 2, 2024
Resided in:
Woodfin, NC
Carl Wayne Britt, 55, of Woodfin, NC, passed away suddenly on December 2, 2024, at Mission Hospital, Asheville, NC.
Wayne was born in Poncé, Puerto Rico, and had lived in several locations around the world, but for the past 20 years had resided in the Asheville area.
He served in the U.S. Navy once out of high school and then pursued a career in electrical engineering, eventually earning his bachelors degree from Western Carolina University, with honors. He had been employed at WilsonArt in Fletcher since his arrival to WNC and was dedicated to his team of co-workers, all of whom he held in high regard.
Wayne was someone who loved being with people – even joining yoga classes and hiking clubs to expand his circle of friends. He also served his community by working with his HOA and the Woodfin town council. Always willing to help, he even coordinated a water relief effort in his neighborhood after hurricane Helene and lent a hand to anyone in need.
He had a love for learning and challenging himself to pick up new skills. Of note, he had developed a passion for photography and gardening which became a central part of his connection to nature and brought him great joy.
He is survived by his only child, Rose Riley Britt; his mother, Grace Nazario Britt; his father, Carl Glenn Britt; his siblings, Carl Rodney Britt, Vivian Gasbarro, Erika Starling, Carlo Britt; in-laws, Beth Britt and Marc Gasbarro; and his former spouse, Jennifer Postles. He also had an extended family of nieces and nephews that include Caitee, Carree, Reece, Chloee, Annell Grace, Annie Marie and Athena. All of his family truly hope that those who knew Wayne will carry memories filled with the laughter and love he shared. He will be missed.
A ceremony to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, January 25, at 3:00 p.m. at the Groce Funeral Home Chapel, 1401 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC.

Wayne always carried such energy! I’m lucky to have been on trips living life through the camera lens hunting turkey tail or false turkey tail. It didn’t really matter since neither of us knew the difference. It was all about journey and the company grinding out some of those big hikes. You’ll be missed dearly my friend!
Going to miss you!
What a great guy. He will be missed by many!!!
Wayne, you will be missed dearly. You were a great friend, neighbor and father.
Our community will not be the same without Wayne. His passion for life and positive energy will be sorely missed.
It was a pleasure to get to meet and work with Wayne. May God bless and comfort his family and friends at this time.
Wayne was a valued member of the Woodfin Parks and Greenway Advisory Board and helped us during a critical time as we obtained permitting and funding for the Greenway/Blueway, including Taylor’s Wave. He was loved and we will miss him greatly. Please advise any service or memorial.
Jim McAllister, Mayor Town of Woodfin
I ALways looked forward to running into Wayne walking around the plant. We always shared a laugh. Our last conversation was about soccer. When we returned from Spain in October he found me and we spent 20 minutes just talking about soccer ⚽️ and if I had attended a game over there. He had a special laugh and great personality. Our hearts are broken but Begona and myself are thankful to have been his friend. Blessings to his Son and family.
I will always remember you as the BEST neighbor and like a brother! Wayne was kind and caring and always full of energy! Never a day goes by by and always positive and keeping in touch! An AWESOME man and very respectable !! Loved him like family! There are no words now but cry happy tears for the memories we shared with him! This is a loss that will take some time to heal. God bless Wayne and keep in touch. ♥️🙏🏻♥️
Wayne was an exceptional human. So grateful to have know him for the past 2 years. Prayers to his family and friends.
I am so heart broken for the Britt family. It’s been many years since I have spoken to them but they hold a special place in my heart. Praying for the comfort and peace and sending love.
I will miss you my friend.
Wayne, You were more than just a brother-in-law. You were a dear friend and a brother. I will treasure the numerous close family moments and gatherings, the hikes, watching soccer, discussing geopolitics, exchanging books ideas, drinking beer, engaging in impromptu funny text chats, hearing your laugh, and so much more… Godspeed Wayne. May your soul always roam the Earth and heavens. We love you and miss you so very much!!
Wayne, may you rest in peace and walk all the trails in Heaven. A pleasure to get to know Wayne and hear about his hiking and time in the Navy. God speed.
I met Wayne a couple of summers ago when I was staying in Asheville for a few weeks. We became fast friends. We had great hiking adventures (he could hike!) and shared many laughs. When I was up there again this past summer, I stayed with him for a few days. He was so welcoming and kind. A truly good and caring person. His passion for life and for helping others was like a light. I’m so sad to hear of his passing. He is loved and he’ll be deeply missed. Rose, I’m sending my love to you. I’m so sorry. RIP, Wayne! You were one of the good ones. ❤️
I still have a hard time believing he has left us. I worked with Wayne, as a consultant for Wilsonart, for more than 10 years. He was great to work with, extremely knowledgeable, and always willing to help and solve issues. Wayne was a great guy that will be missed by many including myself.
