Fletcher, NC
Carol Ann Kixmiller Horton, 52, of Fletcher, North Carolina was welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord on July 26, 2012.
Carol was the daughter of the late William and Patricia Kixmiller. She was born on February 6, 1960 in Vincennes, Indiana. In 1974, she relocated with her family to Fort Myers, Florida. Upon graduation from Fort Myers High School, Carol earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida. Later in her educational career, Carol completed the rigorous process that allowed her to earn her National Board Certification.
Carol is survived by her husband, James Horton, of Fletcher, NC; three children: Emily Salgado, Corey Beth Horton, and Caleb Horton, of Fletcher, NC; two sisters: Janet Pineau, of Ft. Myers, FL., and Beth Knox (Jim), of Sayreville, NJ; and one brother: Fred Kixmiller (Candy), of Danville, KY.
Robert Louis Stevenson wrote; "Judge each day not by the harvest you reap but by the seeds you plant." Carol had many glorious days; she was a person who spent her life lovingly planting and nurturing the seeds of knowledge, caring, and friendship. Carol began her professional career teaching at Quail Hollow Elementary in Tampa, Florida. In 1999, Carol moved to Asheville, North Carolina where she continued to enrich the lives of numerous kindergarten and first grade children at Glen Arden Elementary. Whether dressed as the zany Magic School Bus science teacher, Ms. Frizzle, costumed as Shrek, or simply appearing in her normal teacher attire, Carol instilled a love for learning in the hearts of the young. Through her Christian fellowship, Carol shared her love for the Lord, touched the lives of many individuals, and acquired many lasting friendships.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the many friends and extended family members who supported us through their prayers and thoughtful acts of kindness.
At Carol's request, her body has been donated to science.
A Celebration of Life for Carol will be held on Sunday, July 29, at 3:00 p.m. at Arden Presbyterian Church. Her family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. Sunday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations for the following: Manna Food Bank, 627 Swannanoa River Rd, Asheville, NC 28805; Eblen Charities of WNC, 50 Westgate Parkway, Asheville, NC 28806.

we were very sad to hear of your loss. my two kids Melissa and Joseph both were so blessed to have had your wife and mom fortheir teacher.we are praying for your family. may god be with you.
I am so sorry for your loss. She was my daughter’s first grade teacher at Glen Arden. She went above and beyond to make sure Rachel received the best education and she loved her dearly…the best teacher ever. She was a kind and gentle soul who will be missed greatly. Our prayers are with your family.
It was a great honor to get to know Carol and her family at Hope as well as seeing her at the hospital. I also had the privilege of spending time with her in Bible study. She was a beautiful woman inside and out, who cherished her family deeply. Her gentle, loving spirit was evident from the moment I saw her. As her journey continued, her courage and strength, but especially her love of the Lord, was an inspiration to everyone around her. I know she is healed and is worshipping with the angels! My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time.
Carol was a wonderful teacher and person. She genuinely cared about all of her students and staff she worked with. She will be missed by all her friends.
When I learned of Carol’s passing via Caring Bridge my breath was taken away just knowing that she had reached the end of her journey here on earth. My heart is heavy and sad for the loss of all of us who knew her;yet, glad to know that she is now rejoicing alongside the other saints in Heaven.
Know that I am lifting you all up in my thoughts and prayer, as you begin your journey through grief.
In His Love,
Abby Bates
