Carolyn King Knighten, 80, of West Asheville, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Memorial Campus Mission Hospitals. A native of Asheville, Mrs. Knighten was a daughter of the late Orval F. King and Gladys Waters Ashley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Gary Knighten. Mrs. Knighten had retired from Wachovia Bank. She was a charter member of Christ Community Church C&M.A. She was a former Sunday School teacher there, and enjoyed working with children. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a gracious Christian lady who was dearly loved by all who knew her. Mrs. Knighten is survived by her daughters, Pam Rose and husband Nick, Karla Lee, and Angie Tucker and husband John; grandchildren, Cliff Franks, Nathan Bradley, Jeremy Bradley, Sara Letke, and Spencer Merrell, and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Grace Baptist Church, 718 Haywood Rd., with the Rev. Don Furniss officiating. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201, or to CarePartners Adult Day Services, 68-A Sweeten Creek Rd., Asheville, NC 28803.
