Laura Carroll Taylor Parker Arden, NC - Carroll Parker, 80, of Arden, passed away on July 23, 2007, from a brief illness in the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Carroll lived at the Ardenwoods Retirement Community, where she had moved three years ago after 60 years in Atlanta, GA. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward Roy Taylor, Sr. and Minnie Dryer Taylor; her brothers, E. Roy Taylor, Jr. and Edmund D. Taylor; and her older son, Madison “Matt” Parker. She is survived by her son, Edmund “Ed” Parker, his wife Bonnie of Asheville, NC, and two granddaughters, Caroline and Isabel Parker. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Anne Tucker and husband, Larry, of Kapaau, HI; John H. Taylor and wife, Barbara, of Trophy Club, TX; Douglas Taylor and wife, GiGi, of Marietta, GA; Mark Taylor and wife, Cappy, of Clayton, GA; Sybil May and husband, Brian, of Canton, GA; John C. Taylor and wife, Teri, of Palmetto, GA and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Parker graduated from Druid Hills High School in 1943, Agnes Scott College in 1947 and received her library degree from Atlanta University in 1972. She worked at the Fulton Co. Public Welfare and the Georgia Dept. of Public Welfare; Marietta High School library and was the Georgia State Librarian until she retired in 1991. She returned to Agnes Scott College in April of this year to celebrate her 60th class reunion. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend whose kindness will be long remembered. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Arlington Memorial Park in Atlanta, GA, preceded by visitation at the Arlington Mausoleum Chapel from 10 to 11 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden, NC is assisting the family with arrangements.
