Charles Alfred Buckner, Sr., 76, of 398 Old Haw Creek Road, Asheville, died Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at his residence. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late George Penland and Louise Bell Buckner. He was also prceded in death by his first wife, Frances Martin Buckner, in 1989, a brother, George Harvey Buckner and a sister, Barbara Falkenburg. Mr. Buckner was president of Blue Ridge Egg Service, an Army Veteran of WWII and Deacan Emeritus at Calvary Baptist Church where he was a member. He was well loved by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Jean Mann Buckner; two daughters, Pat Baker of Johnson City, TN and Iris Roberts of Asheville; a son, Charles “Charlie” A. Buckner, Jr. of Weaverville; five grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Buddy Corbin officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 531 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806.

  6. I have known Charles only since the early ’80s. He was a fine gentleman/businessman providing excellent service to me and my company.
    My prayers go out to him and those he left behind. He will be missed. May he rest in God’s peace.

  7. I have known and liked Mr. Buckner and his wife for a long time and was very sorry to read of his death. I will miss him. I am also a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
