Charles "Buddy" Worth Morse

Charles Worth Morse (Buddy), age 79, died on June 20, 2025 leaving a lifetime of memories and stories. He is celebrating in Heaven with his beloved wife of 58 years, Evon Taylor Morse and his son, Charles Allan Morse. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Spivey, son-in-law, Dale of Weaverville, granddaughter, Shelby Combs (Jake) of Raleigh, grandson, Garrett Spivey of Weaverville, sisters Gayle Williams, Lila Bostian (Eddie), sister-in-law Virginia Taylor, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
Born January 8, 1946 to Sam & Kathleen Morse, he was known as “Buddy” to friends and family. He was a proud member of the Enka Class of 1964 and a formidable tackle known as “Boom-Boom” on the football field. Charles grew up on his family’s Polled Hereford Farm, driving tractors long before he got his license, mowing hay and working for neighbors. He loved cars, and raced at the Asheville Speedway before his beloved wife, Evon Taylor Morse, “urged” him to stop racing. His love of racing remained, but he worked for years as a mechanic and farmhand to provide for his family. Charles later became a well known “picker” & auctioneer of antiques in WNC. With Evon (& often both sisters), he traveled the East Coast collecting and selling beautiful antiques at Morse Auctions, estate sales and antique shows. He loved his Tarheels, and spent time cheering them on, although he spent some halftimes chopping wood when he did not believe his Carolina team was playing well. Sharing meals with his family and friends, generous, loyal, hard-working, kind and funny, he had a mischievous twinkle in his eyes even as dementia dimmed his world. Camping, beach trips, making homemade ice cream with his family and friends were some of his hobbies when he was not turning other people’s junk into antique treasures.
Abraham Lincoln said, “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” Buddy packed much into his years, but some of his favorite years were as Papaw Mo, spent spoiling Garrett & Shelby. He never met a stranger, and the world will be darker without his large presence, generous heart and fun personality. His family appreciates his caregiver, Sonja, who helped Gayle take care of him. 1. I grew up with and worked with Buddy he was like a brother to me, and he will be missed so much. Love to the family.

  2. Lila, Teresa and family…I am saddened to hear of Buddy’s passing. My thoughts are with you. Enjoy your memories.

  3. So, so sorry to hear about Uncle Charles when you called yesterday, I loved him so much. He was always there from my earliest memories right by Aunt Evon’s side, where he continued to be until she passed. They were THE team, for better or worst. A lot of my childhood memories involved the two of them, so much fun! He will be missed so much!😢💔
