Charles C. 'Ned' Thomas, Sr.
November 23, 1920 ~ December 8, 1999
A native of Gastonia, Mr. Thomas was a son of the late John Jackson and Essie Powell Thomas and was also preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Thomas, who died in 1998.
He was a World War II Army-Aircorp veteran serving in the Pacific. He was a theater manager, and a member of the Foundation of the Motion Picture Pioneers Inc. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
Mr. Thomas is survived by one son, Dr. Charles C. Thomas, II and his wife Charlene, of Asheville; two brothers, William “Bill” Thomas of Morganton and George Thomas of Naples, FL; three grandsons; Charles C. Thomas, III and wife Amy, John D. Thomas and James E. Thomas and one great granddaughter, Elizabeth C. Thomas, all of Asheville and a nephew, Van Quinn of Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, with the Reverend Dr. Rob Blackburn, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home on Long Shoals Road.
