Charles (Chuck) Marble Wettergreen, 78, of Asheville, NC, passed away on Sunday after a brief but aggressive battle with cancer. Mr. Wettergreen was born on June 18, 1946, in Schenectady, NY, to John and Mary Wettergreen.
Chuck served his country as a member of the Navy for 6 years, from 1965 to 1971, working as a nuclear power plant technician and machinist on multiple nuclear submarines. Following his military service, he attended Claremont McKenna College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Chuck and Susan (Leach) were married on June 24, 1972, in Richfield, OH.
Throughout his entire career, Chuck worked in Accounting and Human Resources at Bridgestone Firestone. During his career, he and Susan lived in Monrovia, Liberia, for 4 years, and later settled in Geneva, IL, for 25 years where they raised their children. While in Geneva, Chuck found joy in gardening, beekeeping, and making mead. He was actively involved in his children’s education and extracurricular activities, particularly swimming and Boy Scouts.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Susan, their two children, Matthew (Claudia Solis) Wettergreen of Houston, TX, and Sarah (Matt) Sandquist of Champaign, IL, as well as three grandchildren: Ada Jude Solis Wettergreen, Marshall Nelson Sandquist, and Anderson Josef Sandquist. He is also survived by his sister, Beth Wettergreen, and nieces. Chuck was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Greene, and brother, John Wettergreen.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 30, at 11:00 AM at Givens Estates Chapel and Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be directed to their chosen charity.
