Charles "Chuck" Edward Rankin, 59, of Fairview, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Mission Hospital.
Born in Jackson County to the late Robert and Rosemary Whicker Rankin, he graduated from UNC majoring in film, hosted Livestock Music Festival, and was owner of Wood Tech Enterprises and former owner and Brew Master of Dilworth, as well as being a Percussionist for one of Asheville's most beloved bands "Circus Mutt". He was a "lover of the land" , people, and of all animals. He worked hard to purchase The Rankin Farm for later use as a conservancy.
Survivors include his wife, Jill "Jilly" Spalding Rankin; loving step-daughters, Olivia and Alyssa; sister-in-law, Jennifer Smith (Farley) and nephews, Connor and Braxton Smith.
Per Charles' wishes, there will be no services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy, 372 Merrimon Ave., Asheville, NC. 28801 or to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, 31 Glendale Ave., Asheville, NC, 28803.
Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.

It’s hard to believe that Chuck is gone. He will remain in my memory as a very colorful and interesting character.
