Charles Glenn Stewart, age 79, of Candler, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2011 at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born June 8, 1932 in Buncombe County, NC to the late Jack Wate Stewart and Althea Ridley Stewart. Mr. Stewart retired after 50 years as owner and operator of his logging company, Jack W. Stewart & Son. He received the first "logger of the year" award in Western North Carolina in 1986. Glenn will be remembered by his family as a kind and loving man who enjoyed bluegrass music and NASCAR racing, but most of all loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son, Charles Jack Stewart and one sister, Susie Irene Stewart Rios. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 59 years, Janet Reeves Stewart of the home; two daughters, Glenna Stewart Pope and Loretta Stewart Higdon and her husband, Charlie both of Candler, NC; two sisters, Christine Lunsford of Asheville, NC and Dorothy Stewart of Norton, NC; one brother, Thomas Glenn Stewart of Hendersonville, NC; four grandchildren, Scott, Julie, Matthew and Amanda. Four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue with the Revs. Roy Houston and Charles Sprinkle officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at New Morgan Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated, or memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

    Im so sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad…I know how much you loved him….the wonderful care and attention you gave him will never be forgotten im sure.
    To loose a parent is a very sad thing to deal with….but we have the promise from our Lord that we will be with all of those loved ones forever one day in eternal peace….hold onto that thought and please remember you are my prayers as you go through ths hard time….Loretta he is finally resting in heaven.

  17. I am very sorry to hear about Glenn. I used to play banjo with Alvin Wilson and it seemed like Glenn was always where we were perfoming at. He always had a smile on his face and I enjoyed talking to him. He was a really good man.
