Charles Denver “Charlie” Gough, age 38, passed away on July 19, 2025, at his home in Black Mountain.

Born on December 22, 1986, in Asheville, Charles was the beloved son of Max and Portia Gough. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandmother, Aeline Penley; sister, Julia Ledesma; brother-in-law, Santiago Ledesma; nephew, Nicolas; niece, Magdalena; aunt, Jeanette Grant; and numerous loving cousins who will carry his memory in their hearts.

Charles had a quiet way about him. He was intelligent, observant, and thoughtful, paid close attention to people, and enjoyed entertaining family and friends with stories from his everyday life.

Throughout his career, Charles made steady, behind-the-scenes contributions. He built and repaired cellular towers, delivered medical oxygen and supplies, and most recently served the public as a state employee.

He is gone too soon and will be deeply missed. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, at Groce Funeral Home, 1401 Patton Ave., Asheville, NC 28806. Burial will follow at Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

  1. So sorry for your loss. Praying for you and your family. I worked with Charles at Black Mountain Center. He was always kind and helpful. We will miss him. Fly high my friend, until we meet again.
