Charles Stroh Swab (Charlie), 67, of Asheville, NC, passed away peacefully at The Laurels of Summit Ridge Nursing Home, April 26, 2025. Charlie was born on May 3,1957 at a U.S. Army Hospital in Bad-Cannstatt, Germany. His parents were the late Robert Kniley Swab and Priscilla Stroh Swab, both of Harrisburg, PA.

Charlie was an Army brat, traveling to numerous locations during his father’s military stint. He and his family eventually resided in Westfield, New Jersey for most of his formative years before moving to Asheville, NC for college. He was a “Miracle Man,” having survived 35 years following four pituitary brain tumor operations as a young man, repercussions and recent seizures and electrolyte issues. He was a stalwart, kept his wonderful humor and never let things get him down.

A graduate of Mars Hill College with a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration Degree, Charlie had a diverse business career. He particularly enjoyed positions with The Equitable’s Purchasing Division, Charlotte; The Asheville Citizen-Times’ Circulation Department and Medical Marketing Studies, Scotch Plains, NJ and Blue Sky Consultants, NJ. There, he performed marketing research studies covering a variety of industries. In those positions, he often interacted with members of media regarding possible topics for coverage.

Charlie also liked his work in customer service. Most recently, he held several positions with Asheville’s Department of Transportation where he worked for 10 years. He also brought computer expertise to these positions, having received a Diploma in Computer Programming from The Chubb Institute in North Brunswick, NJ.

A man with many friends, Charlie could chat about almost anything. And, his laughter was so contagious. An excellent golfer, he knew everything there was about the game.

He and his brother taught his parents, sister and friends all the facets of the sport with great love and patience.
Charlie loved cooking and food; loved baseball and football and other sports. He also was a movie buff beyond compare. He would have made a wonderful actor or comedian. Could mimic anyone!

He also was a music aficionado – no matter what genre — and crossword puzzle addict as well. He would frequently win trivia competitions because of his eclectic realm of interests.

A kind and loving man, who was a loyal, generous, treasured amigo to so many. And, Charlie adored his pets and vice versa. A man with more guts than most through all his health trials. He knew the joke, the joy and fun of life. He lived a good one and impacted many. Hopefully, others will follow his example and always stay strong.

Charlie leaves behind his sister, Barbara, also of Asheville, and many pals. His brother and best friend, Bob (Robert Emory Swab), passed away four years ago in Cohasset, MA.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Frazier’s Tavern in Asheville in the relatively near future. Details will be provided to friends of the Swab family.

Charlie was very active in The American Legion, especially Post 3 in Westfield, NJ. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please send donations to the Westfield post or any Veteran’s organizations in your area. He chose to be cremated and his ashes will be spread in Asheville, New Jersey and Pennsylvania at his favorite places. Bless our wonderful boy, Mr. “Young at Heart” !!!!
