  11. Having grow up with my cousin Chet, I can understand his calling Mt. Pisgah his mountain. That is my home too. May God bless Chet, brothers, and family. He was a very good man.

  12. Mr. Hill was by far the most influential teacher in so many young lives in our small valley community through the years and certainly I have many found memories. He had a presence…an intensity about him. He cared very deeply for his community and we are all better individuals having been his students and friend. A Great Man indeed!

  13. So sad for the loss of Chester he was a a fun person at school and enjoyed being around. To all his family I know he will be missed greatly. Pat Mauney Duncan

  14. Mr. Chet was a kind, gentle man. He was my grandmother’s Deacon for years while they both attended White Rock Baptist Church. My sisters, mother and myself had a long visit with him last summer while we were in Candler. He told some stories from his years of teaching and it made me long for teachers like him to fill our public schools today. I know he will be missed tremendously by family and friends, alike. He no longer suffers, but has been reunited with his beloved Irene and the Savior he loved. We will miss seeing you this year when we come to Candler. May each of his family feel God’s gentle peace and loving comfort.

  15. I ended being his math student for 4years He was a great basketball coach I enjoyed those years.

  16. Danny and Jackie I am so sorry for your loss – you are in my thoughts and prayers.

  17. Chet was a fine man. He married Irene and claimed her children as his very own. It was an honor to preside over their wedding ceremony.
My love and prayers are extended to his precious family.

  18. Mr. Hill was a force in my life I’ll never forget, and try as I might, I could never call him Chet (even though he insisted lol). His love of community, history, art, and math will be remembered for ages. Thank you for sharing him with the rest of us.

  19. One of the hardest things he ever asked of me was to call him Chet. He was always Mr. Hill and because of my utmost respect and love for this man, I truly struggled calling him Chet. Many thanks to his family for sharing this great man with our valley…..I think of him everyday when cresting ‘the big hill’ and the beauty of ‘his mountain’, right there in my face. Much love and prayers to his precious family.

  20. Dear Family,
Even though it has been some years ago, it seems like only yesterday we were at a family reunion with you all. Chet was always so cheerful and kind, and his love for Irene and the children was evident. He will be missed. Our love and prayers go out for you during this difficult time. We pray that God will wrap His great arms around you, hold you close and comfort you. With love,

  21. Chet will.be missed that is for sure. He was a very good coach. My prayers goes out to the whole family. May God bless each one of you.

  22. I often saw Chet out and about in the community grocery shopping, working at Jesse Israel and helping at Zephyr Hills Free Will Baptist. It seemed as if I had not been gone for twenty five years. He was as friendly to me as he always was when we grew up next door to each other. I have fond memories of his parents and all the brothers. Rest in peace, my friend.

  23. I just learned of Mr. Hill’s death. I wish I could have gone to his funeral. He taught me math in 7th & 8th grade at Pisgah Elementary. He was also my basketball coach. In PE, he taught us how to play Pin Ball, Volleyball, and many other fun games. He had a unique and very special way of connecting with his students. In the classroom was a strong disciplinarian and sometimes intimidating, but he also had a sensitive, patient, and empathetic side. He demanded that everyone respect everyone else. He was an awesome teacher, role model, and mentor. Mr. Hill’s lessons about the importance of honesty, integrity, respect, and perseverance are still with me today. While I am saddened by his death and know that he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, I also know that he is now at peace.

  24. RIP, Chet! Really miss our family historian but so thankful
For all the work you did to preserve our heritage! Miss you!
