Clayton Cooper

Clayton Cooper passed away Friday, October 31, 2014, at his home in Asheville, NC. Born August 21, 1932, he was the son of the late Herbert and Pauline Cooper. He was a loving father, brother, and son. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, growing flowers and plants, reading, especially his Bible, and helping his family, friends, and neighbors. Clayton's love for his Lord and Savior never waivered. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Sue Dills Cooper of Franklin, NC; sons, Roy "Buck" Cooper of Asheville and Steven "Michael" Cooper of Asheville; wife, Wanda Mehaffey Cooper of Newfound; brother, Tommy Cooper and sister, Cleo Ayers, both of Asheville. He is survived by sons, Gary Mitchell Cooper and wife Mary Ellen, of Highlands, Tim Cooper and wife Lynn, of Asheville, and Roger Cooper, of TN; two daughters, Tina Owens and husband Tony, of Emma, and Tresha Chandler and husband Shannon, of Asheville; two sisters, Virgina Warren of Rogersville, TN, and Linda Taylor of Asheville; fifteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Green Hills Cemetery, with Pastor Aaron Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Ave.
