Connie Vise Morris

Connie Vise Morris, born June 4, 1948, died from complications of a cancerous brain tumor on Monday April 3, 2017, after a nine and half year battle. Connie was born in Muncie, IN, where she attended Yorktown High School and was a four year varsity cheerleader (Go Tigers!). She and her family moved to Deltona, FL in 1968 where she worked as an account supervisor for ten years at an insurance company. In 1971 she and her high school sweetheart Gary J. Morris reunited and were married in 1973 in Deltona, FL, on April 14th (forty-four years). In 1981 Gary and Connie moved to the mountains of NC to Little Sandy Mush in Madison County, where they built a log cabin and established a homestead. Connie loved gardening, flowers and canning, and she raised blueberries for market. But most of all she loved her Thursday morning women's bowling league for years. Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Roy L. and Anna Bell Vise and sister Cheryl Williams Shroyer. Surviving are her husband, Gary J. Morris, of the home; brother David L. Vise (Janice) of Deland, FL; sister Carolyn Sue Davis (Clarence) of Bradenton, FL; and many nieces and nephews. She's moving on to bigger and better things, and I miss her, save me a spot, I'll love you forever, Joey. A memorial service for Mrs. Morris will be held on May 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home. A special thanks to Jessie Plemmons, our caregiver for the last two years, and all the thoughts and prayers from her friends and neighbors. The family suggests that in lieu of sending flowers to the service to instead plant a flower (perennial) in her memory.

  13. I was sorry to hear of Connie’s passing in the Star Press this evening. I have only seen her once since high school graduation and that was our 30th class reunion. I was in the cheerblock and cheered all the cheerleaders on for all the games. I was a very insecure teenager, new in the Yorktown school district and wanting to be back in the Muncie School System with all my life long friends and my long time boyfriend. Connie was always very friendly to me and always had a kind word to say and a nice smile. It’s not strange that I don’t remember hardly anyone from Yorktown from 51 years ago, but, I will always have good memories of Connie. God be with her family.

  14. Family: My name is Sheila (Dixon) Cannon. My sisters (Pam & Cindy) and I attended school at Harrison Twp. (Gaston IN) when the Vise family lived just off Bethel Pike in Harrison Twp., Delaware Co., just outside Muncie, IN. Carolyn Sue was in my grade, Connie & David were in my sisters’ classes. This must have been about 55+ years ago. I remember Anna Bell & Roy with much fondness, and have thought of the good, wholesome times our two families spent together at one of our homes, Anna Bell & Roy and my parents (Dorothy & Cleo) visiting or playing cards, while we kids ‘played’ as kids did back then. Over the years, and into recent times, I have enjoyed the very good, warm memories from these days. To Gary, Carolyn, David and all of Connie’s family and friends, I extend my most heart-felt condolences for your loss. Take care and God be with you.

  15. On behalf of our family I wish to thank everyone
who has testified of your love, your fond
memories, your thoughts and your prayers
concerning the recent passing of our beloved
Connie. Life is so very short but she has left us
all a benchmark to build on. I can’t help but
believe that Heaven is a brighter place because
of her presence. Your words of encouragement
reflecting how she has touched each of your
lives is truly comforting and brings joy to our
hearts. May God bless each of you abundantly
with His wonderful peace and comfort as He
    has us.

  16. I’m sorry to hear this.I worked with Connies sister and she would come by often and visit with us I have ordered some blueberry bushes and will plant them in Ms Connies memory, they will provide great memories of a wonderful lady. May God richly bless her family.

  17. To the Family of Connie , I didn’t know Connie but read her obituary and felt the need to express my sincere condolences . What a courageous woman. To fight that long takes a special strength . I’m so sorry that she had to suffer. Please take comfort of Gods promise in Rev, 21:3,4. My deepest sympathy to your family.

  18. My deepest condolences to Gary and the rest of the family.

Obviously it has been a lot of years, but the memories never leave of Yorktown and all the memories of Connie, Cheryl, Carolyn & Dave in school and around Yorktown.
My thought and prayers are with the entire family.

  19. What a beautiful tribute to your wife. Tim and I loved seeing the home you built and loved together. Thanks for sharing.
