Darren Edward Burrell, Sr., 45, of Candler, died Sunday, May 11, 2014, at the Golden Living Center. A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of Hazel Fields Wilson and of the late Paul Buford Burrell. Mr. Burrell worked for Sonapress. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Serena Burrell of Marshall; a son, Darren Burrell, Jr., of Marshall; grandson Carter Edward Burrell; sister Susan Newman; brother Mike Burrell; and niece Skyler Burrell. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Dean Hensley officiating. Interment will follow at West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Darren became my nephew by marriage and that was a great addition to my family because he was always so loving and kind and such a good man. I thought the world of him and have many fond memories of him. Darren touched many people’s lives and will be greatly missed but never forgotten. He will always be my nephew and fondly remembered. My Dear Nephew may you rest in peace. your michigan family will hold you in their hearts and think of you often. We will never forget the good times, and all the joy you brought to our lives.
