Asheville – David Edwin Whitaker, 59, of Asheville, passed from this life into eternity on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at his residence.
A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of Reverend Roland E. and Ruby Baldwin Whitaker of Asheville.
He attended Fletcher First Baptist Church, was employed by United Laboratories and had served with the US Army Reserves.
In addition to being survived by his parents, David was a loving husband of nearly 30 years to Linda Rogers Whitaker and father to Seth Whitaker and his wife, Stephanie. He was also a loving and adoring "Papa" to his grandchildren, Eli and Ava Whitaker, all of Asheville. He is also survived by two sisters, Wanda Penland and Teresa Hudson, both of Asheville as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Reverend Jeff McCurry and Reverend Seth Whitaker officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Interment will be private.
Memorial donations may be made to Fletcher First Baptist Church, 5 Cane Creek Road, Fletcher, NC 28732.

We were very shocked to hear of the passing of David. We know he was a find person and came from a wonderful family. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. We hurt being left behind, but knowing our love ones are with Jesus and others that have gone on does give us peace.

We just met David last week when we were in visiting in Asheville. I am so very sorry that we didn’t have the opportunity to meet you at that time as well. Even tho we had just met David, we felt a common bond with him as we discussed our interests and plans for the future. It was obvious to us how very much he loved his family above all else. I am so very sorry for the pain and grief you must be going through. Deborah tells me that you have a strong faith and know that even this fits into God’s plan somehow… May your faith, the love of your family, and the prayers and thoughts of all who knew and loved David help to sustain you through this difficult time. Ron and I look forward to meeting you – at some time in the future when it is comfortable for you.

Mrs. Whitaker, I just met David a few weeks ago with my friends, the Schons from Florida. He was a very kind and considerate man- very tentative to what we had to say. I am joyful that he is in Heaven and someday you will see him again. May God wrap you in his arms of compassion and love.
