David Joe Bryson, 74, of Asheville, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. David was born January 12, 1940 in Jackson Co., the son of the late R. Vernon and LouElla Hoyle Bryson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorla B. Moody. David was a faithful member of Hominy Baptist Church for forty-nine years. He was a deacon, and served on several committees. He had a very enjoyable working career. He spent four years in the Air Force, and served ten years on the NC Highway Patrol, which he loved very much. In 1990, David retired from Sears and within a few weeks was appointed by Judge Robert Lewis to Magistrate Court Judge where he served for eighteen years. David is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Pauline McClure Bryson; one daughter, Lisa Bryson of Asheville; one brother, Don Bryson and wife Diane of Waynesville; and two nieces, Carla Youse (Jay) and Misti Moody of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Hominy Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Joe Yelton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

David Joe and I graduated (Class of 56) from Waynesville Township High School and I lost track of him and have not seen him since we graduated but I have thought of him often……………..especially at our class dinners and reunions. He shall be missed but the sweet memories will always remain. My condolences.

  5. We are So sorry to read aqbout Joe. I graduated with him from Waynesville Township High School in 1956. Joe was always a gentleman in school. Some years back I learned he was a judge in Buncombn Co. Our love and thoughts are with his family. I feel we have lost a good friend.   6. David was really a first class fellow, I really liked him… even though he did give me a ticket once when he was a NC Highway patrolman! RIP David!

  7. Kim and I enjoyed the time that we knew Dave and the number of years Dave and I worked together. We did become close friends and shared many tails of past events with each other.

  8. Dave Bryson was a wonderful soul. I always enjoyed talking and joking with him at the magistrate’s office. He will be missed by so many, and live on in our sweetest memories.
