David Michael Wellmon of Asheville, passed away on May 4, 2025. Born on November 3, 1948 in Jacksonville, NC, he was the son of the late Colon Wellmon and Martha Sweeney Wellmon. The family resided in Kannapolis, NC.
David graduated from Asheville Catholic High School in 1967. He attended the University of North Carolina Asheville where is received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1971.
David was a proud member of the Catholic fraternal organization, Knights of Columbus and retired from the Knights of Columbus Insurance as a General Agent for North Carolina several years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Bentley Wellmon; son, Richard Wellmon (Melissa); sister, Pamela Pritchett (Glenn); brother, Mark Wellmon (Cindy); nieces, Amy Pritchett and Crystal McVay; nephews, Brad Wellmon and Brian Wellmon; and many cousins.
The Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Monsignor Roger Arnsparger at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the Basilica of St. Lawrence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Basilica of St. Lawrence Restoration Fund, 97 Haywood St., Asheville, NC 28801, or to a charity of one’s choice.
