David Paul Shepard, Sr., 65, of Weaverville, died Sunday, October 11, 2015, at the Charles George VA Medical Center, due to long term complications from Agent Orange exposure during Vietnam. A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late James Walter and Ethel Shepard. Mr. Shepard was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Surviving are his wife, Dianne Metcalf Shepard; daughters, Tonya Robinson, April Shepard (Mike), Jennifer Robinson (Caleb), and Stephanie Metcalf (Bo); sons, David P. Shepard, Jr., Jason Howell (Miranda), Paul J. Shepard (Julie), and Lewis D. Shepard; twenty-one grandchildren; and a brother, Michael Shepard. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Lewis officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Psalm 34:4 "I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears".

So sorry ,I’m so glad I got to know Dave he was my kind of man any man that loves to fish as much as he did is my kind of man.We love you guys an are keeping you in our prayers.Its one of the hardest think I ever did was bury my dad & mom with in the same year,but it does get a little easer.If there is anything I can do please let me know.Love you all.

  4. Diane and Family, I am so heart broken about David’s passing. It seems like Roger and David should still be setting over there at the house laughing and joking and having a good old time. I set here and write this through tears and a broken heart because I know David will not only be missed by his Family but also all the people he touch in his life that was lucky enough to know him…So be thankful for the years of joy you had together and remember them. I love you all.
