Donald Eugene Johnson

Donald Eugene Johnson, born July 25, 1932, passed away on December 18, 2010 from complications from a fall that occurred on November 24, 2010. Mr. Johnson was at the Hospice Center of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Oteen at the time of his death. Mr. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Asheville, NC, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was an avid reader and listener of classical music. He loved people, was caring, and was a great storyteller. He will be missed. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his former wife, Joyce Eaton Johnson; his parents, Richard Lane and Nell Ellison Johnson; and a brother, Russell Lane Johnson. Mr. Johnson is survived by sons: Thomas Lane Johnson, his wife Laura, Phillip Lee Johnson, his wife Delores, and Joseph Scott Johnson, and his wife Liz. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Kelsey, Lauren and Kyle, and a brother Charles A. Johnson. The family would like to thank the entire staff of the V.A. Hospital, and also Josh Rice, for providing care and assistance during a period when Mr. Johnson had limited mobility. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery Chapel, Black Mountain, NC. Interment will follow in the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made by a charity of your choice.
