Donnie Eugene Buckner, 45, of 184 Maxwell Road, died unexpectedly Friday, December 2, 2011. A native of Buncombe County, he worked as maintenance manager with Curbside Management. He enjoyed his family, friends, and racing. As a driver, he won many races at Asheville and Newport speedways, and his favorite place to be was in the Winner's Circle. He was a loving son to his parents, Benny H. Buckner and Kathy Myers Buckner, who survive him, as does his wife, Penny Redmond, his son, Ronnie Buckner, and his uncle, Ernie Myers, who gave him much loving support. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Grassy Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Branch and Mr. John Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road, and at other times will be at one Double Oaks Drive.

  6. Donnie was a person that would absolutely help you in any way. Many times at the old Asheville Motor Speedway, he would help me or give me advice. I think that was just in his nature.He loved racing and if there is a race track in Heaven, I guarantee you Donnie is on it. He stood behind his Son’s racing and loved his family.   7. Was so Sorry to hear of the passing of one of the most Wonderful men. Donnie was such an Awesome person and race car driver. I pray that God has his arms around Penny and Ronnie as they face such a hard time.

  10. I was saddened to hear of Donnie’s death. There were many Friday nights on the River that Donnie would be in victory lane and I would be telling him to smile! He will be greatly missed.
