I have such fond memories of being with church with my friend Doris. I’ve lost most of my dearest ladies there but truly know I will be with all of them soon. Darlene my prayers are with you, wish I could be with you for her services but not able to come. God comfort and hold you close plus your family.

Doris Ellen Burrell Shepherd, 81, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
A native of Buncombe County, Doris was the daughter of the late Floyd and Maretta Owenby Burrell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eual Earl Shepherd; daughter, Brenda Shepherd; and son, Eual “Rusty” Earl
Shepherd, Jr.
Mrs. Shepherd worked for many years in the A.C. Reynolds Middle School cafeteria.
She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Elizabeth Shepherd; granddaughter, Jennifer Shepherd (Rusty Woody); and three great-grandchildren, Brayden Nikitopoulos, Brooke Nikitopoulos, and Bradly Woody. Also surviving Edmonia Wackford (Nate), two children; Nathan and Elora Wackford who Doris considered family.
Doris will be missed by her family, friends and especially her dogs.
A service is planned for Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road with the Rev. Matt Price, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
