Christina Doris Wiechmann Jones was born October 17, 1929, in Brooklyn, NY, to Christina Wagner and John Henry Wiechmann. Doris, of 1314 Tunnel Road, Asheville, went on to eternal life in heaven Tuesday, March 28, 2000. She was preceded in death by husband Arthur Edward Jones.

Her family includes two daughters, Gloria Connell of Asheville and Carol Alger and her husband Frank of Colonial Beach, VA; a brother, John Wiechmann and his wife Wylene of Chandler, AZ, and eight grandchildren, Rebecca Craig and Michael Connell of Asheville, Frank, Patrick, Trevor, Timothy, Brian and Scott Alger, all of Virginia, and one great-grandchild, Tyler Craig of Asheville.

Doris grew up in Richmond Hills, NY, raised her family in Greenville, NY, later moving to Albany, NY and then to Clearwater, FL, where she was the office manager for the Palm Harbor, FL, Chamber of Commerce and where she helped develop the Arts, Crafts and Music Festival. She retired to Asheville where she was a joy to all her neighbors in Scenic Mobile Home Park and was a member and officer of the homeowners association. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she was an active member of the LWML and a joyful participant in the contemporary worship service. She was an active volunteer in the community with Manna Food Bank and ABCCM. She was a member of the Maude Hall Club of the NC Extension Homemakers Association and the Order of Eastern Star.

Her family will receive friends from 5:30 - 7:00 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

A memorial service will be 7:30 pm Thursday at Emanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Nieting officiating, followed by dessert and coffee with the family in the fellowship hall.

  1. Doris was a great friend and a dedicated Canasta player. We were such dear friends in Greenville,NY and when she and Art lived in Albany,NY. I will remember her with such fond memories.Such a true friend one looks long and hard to find and keep. She will be an inspiration to me.
