Dorothy (Dot) Hollar

A native of Brevard, she was a daughter of the late James Blaine and Lavada Meese Carland. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Carland.
She was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and of the Maude Hall Club of the N.C. Extension Homemakers Association, and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post No. 891. She was a member of the Buncombe County Crafters and was named the 1989 “Woman of the Year” for the HyLites Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years William H. Hollar Sr.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. William (Hank) and Rita Hollar Jr. of Newport News, VA, Stephen D. and Janet Hollar of Asheville, David L. and Bobbi Hollar of Piedmont, SC; four grandsons, Jason Hollar, Jeffrey Hollar, Lee Hollar, and Brent Hollar; five sisters, Alma “Pat” Hoffman of Asheville, Minnie Shealy of Lakeside, CA, Gladys Plemmons of Fletcher, Opal Watson of Malvern, AK, and Myra Carland of Fletcher; two brothers, Cecil Carland of Midland, OR, and Fred Carland of Wilmington, DE.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. R. Mark Nieting officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Avenue where Mrs. Hollar will remain until being placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
