Dorothy Hudson Washburn, age 92, of Lake Lure, passed away on April 13 after a full and wonderful life.
Dorothy was born in New York City to Earl and Evelyn Hudson. She and Dick, her husband of 70 years, moved shortly after World War II to Lake Lure where they operated the Chalet Club, a lodging establishment built by Dick's parents in 1927.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Dick, her children Helen and Bob, her grandchildren James Yamada, Sarah Yamada, Sarah Olson, Brad Washburn and Isabel Washburn and her six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters Margaret and Pearl and her son Dick, Jr.
Dorothy was treasured by all who knew her. As an active member of the Church of the Transfiguration in Bat Cave, a beloved figure in the Hickory Nut Gorge community and a true friend to the visitors of the Chalet, she will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will take place at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 18 at the Chalet (previously announced to be at the Church of the Transfiguration). The service will be outdoors – some seating will be available - please bring a blanket if you wish to sit on the grass. Due to limited parking – those who wish to attend may park at either the Town of Lake Lure Municipal Center, the Arcade Building parking (across from the Lake Lure Beach) or at the Lake Lure Post Office (please only park in the spaces close to the highway). A Young Transportation shuttle bus will be picking up and dropping off those in attendance at these locations from 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church of the Transfiguration Memorial Garden Fund, PO Box 130, Bat Cave NC 28710.

Dick and family,
We were saddened to read of the passing of Dorothy. We count it as a blessing to have gotten to know her even for a brief time. It is wonderful that you and Dorothy were able to share your lives together for 70 years. When we celebrate our 70th anniversary, I will be 109!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Woody
Dick and Family: Dorothy was such a wonderful person with a smile and kind word for all! I will always remember the caroling this past Christmas and her knitting penquin and Dorothy dancing with the penquin! Dick and Dorothy’s ‘Love Story’ was so precious! She will be missed but remembered as well!

So saddened to read this in 2016. She was very dear to me. Sincerely, Lore Bazemore
My Dearest Mary Webb Wod and Uncle Elliot Wood introduced me to Ms. Washburn’s Chalet Club. I did not know her, except through a brief meeting as a guest years ago, but I do mourn her passing.
I just found this only last year and I am SO sorry to hear about Dorothy’s passing. She was an amazing woman and like a grandma to me. I miss her still to this day.
