Dorothy Hudson Washburn

Dorothy Hudson Washburn, age 92, of Lake Lure, passed away on April 13 after a full and wonderful life. Dorothy was born in New York City to Earl and Evelyn Hudson. She and Dick, her husband of 70 years, moved shortly after World War II to Lake Lure where they operated the Chalet Club, a lodging establishment built by Dick's parents in 1927. Dorothy is survived by her husband Dick, her children Helen and Bob, her grandchildren James Yamada, Sarah Yamada, Sarah Olson, Brad Washburn and Isabel Washburn and her six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters Margaret and Pearl and her son Dick, Jr. Dorothy was treasured by all who knew her. As an active member of the Church of the Transfiguration in Bat Cave, a beloved figure in the Hickory Nut Gorge community and a true friend to the visitors of the Chalet, she will be greatly missed. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 18 at the Chalet (previously announced to be at the Church of the Transfiguration). The service will be outdoors – some seating will be available - please bring a blanket if you wish to sit on the grass. Due to limited parking – those who wish to attend may park at either the Town of Lake Lure Municipal Center, the Arcade Building parking (across from the Lake Lure Beach) or at the Lake Lure Post Office (please only park in the spaces close to the highway). A Young Transportation shuttle bus will be picking up and dropping off those in attendance at these locations from 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M.
