Dorothy Mae Johnson Austin, 84, of 138 Gorman Bridge Road, Asheville, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Austin was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Ralph Johnson and Hattie Mae Crook Johnson Hyatt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewie Lee Austin who died in 1983, and by two sisters, Wanda Rollins and June Davis and a brother Paul Hyatt. She is survived by a daughter Judy Griffin of Leicester; a son Bruce Austin of Asheville; three sisters Gwen Franklin of Fairview, Edith Stempson of Minnesota, and Barbara Trimnal of Largo, FL; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday at Bent Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Darrell Searcey officiating. Pallbearers will be Terry, Ted, Craig and Brett Griffin, David Austin and Anthony Pope. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

    We are so sorry for your loss. Since December our families have shared a common bond at Emerald Ridge and want you to know we are now thinking and praying for you in your time of grief.

    Mrs. Austin was such a kind and sweet woman and your devotion to her during this time was an inspiration to the Snyder family.

    We are saddened to see the empty bed but know she is with the Lord and with loved ones in Heaven and no longer in pain.
