Earl Kenneth Cowan, 79, of 1 High Meadows Drive, Candler, died Tuesday, February 26, 2002 in an Asheville health care facility.
A native of Buncombe County, Mr. Cowan was a son of the late Melvin and Sadie Bryson Cowan and husband of the late Mabel Koon Cowan, who died in January 1984.
Mr. Cowan retired from American Enka in 1984 following 42 years of service in the chemical testing division. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville.
Survivors include his second wife and best friend, Eveline McDaris Cowan; two step-daughters, Judith M. Maples of Boone and Nancy P. Thomas of Hot Springs; a sister, Louise Vance of Irvington, VA and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11:00 am Friday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Reverend Don Welborn officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 pm Thursday at the Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

I was touched to hear of Earl’s death. I worked for Earl many years ago at Enka and found him to be a man with high moral standards and very pleasant to work for and with. Please accept my condolences.
