Eddie Harold Norton

Eddie Harold Norton, 73, passed away in Asheville on August 17, 2025 following a long illness.

A native of Buncombe County and recent resident of Murphy, Eddie was a son of the late Eddie Howell Norton and Lorena Stefanini Norton.

Eddie was employed by Ingles Markets from 1965 until 1980, at which time he left to pursue a future with his family in wholesale business, marketing products to retail grocers. He served as a plant manager, consultant and buyer for Quaker Oats and then became a Sales Rep. for Atlas Brokers.

In 1986, he returned to Ingles Markets as a District Manager, including stores in Western North Carolina and Northern Georgia. Following his retirement from Ingles, Eddie and his wife, Charlotte moved to Unaka, NC where they purchased Shook’s Marina and ran it together for 12 years. For his next adventure, Eddie learned to be a Boat Mechanic and then he and Charlotte opened a full service boat storage facility in Murphy, which they ran for 10 years.

Eddie wore many “hats”, loved to relax, play with his trackhoe, bulldozer and tractor and enjoyed playing golf. Eddie loved his family and always enjoyed family gatherings.

Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Charlotte; two brothers, Doug and Tommy; three step-sons, Andy, Chris and Matt and four step-grandchildren.

A private celebration of Eddie’s life was held for family in Asheville on August 22.
