  1. Zeek and I are thinking of you at this time. We are so sorry for your loss and hope you will find peace and comfort knowing that others are thinking of you as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Laura

  2. I read Mr. Powles obituary in the Citizen-Times. Although I did not know him, I send my sympathies to Mrs. Powles, his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Mr. Powles’s accomplishments in the Spitfire are truly an outstanding aviation milestone. I have updated his entry under ‘Spitfire’ in Wikipedia to include his obituary. I think people interested in aviation history will appreciate knowing of his passing. I believe he flew the Spitfire to 50,000 feet not 60,000 ft., but it is a miracle that he survived. This must be a very sad for the family, but I am sure he is sending his love from the skies down to you. On Feb. 23 he surpassed 50,000 feet, but his accomplishment remains a heroic record.
