Edwin Lee Howell, 66, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2010, after a period of declining health from amyloidosis.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was born November 12, 1943, to Frances Massie Howell of Candler and the late Glenn C. Howell, Sr. He proudly served in the US Army in 1966-1967 and retired from BASF in 1998 after 36 years service as a mechanic, welder and pipe-fitter.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife/buddy, Marcia Crook Howell and the loves of his life, his children, Aletha and Danny George, along with his grandsons, Seth and Casey George. Also surviving are a sister, Jeanette Bumgardner of Athens, GA, and a brother, Glenn C. (Butch) Howell, Jr. and his wife, Sarah, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He cherished and loved his hunting and fishing buddies.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Sams officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The NC National Guard will provide military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to the Starnes Cove Baptist Church Parking Lot Fund, 149 Starnes Cove Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
