Elaine Grindstaff Ingle, 85, of Asheville, passed away Friday, May 2, 2025 at Aston Park HealthCare.

Born February 12, 1940 in Bryson City, NC, Mrs. Ingle was a daughter of the late William Frank Grindstaff and Ruby Cline Grindstaff. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Billy James Ingle.

Mrs. Ingle graduated from the Memorial Mission Hospital School of Nursing, and worked as a Registered Nurse.

She is survived by her brothers, Everett Grindstaff (Marisa), Jerry Grindstaff (Lida), and Terry Grindstaff (Jodi); step-children, Terri Fox (Kenny), Billy Ingle (Wanda), and Lynn Shaw (Richard); and 1 niece, 7 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 14 at 12:30 p.m. at Aaron Baptist Church, 266 View St., Asheville, NC 28806. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Burial will follow on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery in Black Mountain.

  2. I had the pleasure of working side by side with Elaine in the emergency room at Memorial Mission Hospital in the late 60’s. She was a wonderful nurse & friend. I am so sorry for your loss.

  4. I loved Elaine, we worked together many years at MAHEC OB/GYN. Elaine was a sweet and caring nurse and individual. She helped train me as a nurse and was always thoughtful and caring towards me. She will be missed by many.

  7. Bill & Elaine. They were like two peas in a pod. From the mobile home pk on Smokey Park Hwy, all the way to Holden Beach, NC, they were our neighbors there ’til the returned this area. Such good friends over the years, but now she is with Bill, and they’re celebrating together.
    RIP Elaine.

  8. I worked with Elaine many yrs. in th NICU at Mission. We called it the Special Care Nursery then. Many fond memories of her. Excellent nurse.
