Eleni (Helen) Pappas, 83, passed away at CarePartners Solace on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.

Mrs. Pappas was born in Fidakia-Evrytania, Greece and moved to the United States with her late husband, Jimmy Pappas and two young children in June, 1966. Later they proudly became naturalized American citizens.

Eleni and Jimmy (who died October 17, 2020) were the original family that co-founded Five Points Restaurant in Asheville in the 1970’s. She was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church for nearly 56 years.

Eleni was preceded in death by her parents, George and Maria Tsiamis, and by five siblings, Yianni, Seraphim, Evangelos, Ourania and Dimitri.

Surviving are her daughter, Maria Anagnostopoulos and son-in-law, Nick; her son, Mike Pappas; two grandchildren, Nicole and George Anagnostopoulos; one great-grandchild, Nicholas; sisters, Despina Katsanos and Athena Tsiamtsiouris, both of Greece; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 10, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Fr. Michael Diavatis officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 227 Cumberland Ave., Asheville, NC 28801.

  1. Maria so sorry for your loss. I remember your mom’s coleslaw from when I used to come into Five Points for dinner when I worked for Asheville P.D. I still think it was the best coleslaw I had ever eaten. I know your parents will be missed by all that knew them. God Bless you and all your family during this difficult time.
