Elsie Luzenia Wright Barnes, 91, of 120 Chapman Drive, Asheville, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Hospice Solace Center. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Burton and Melissa Wright. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Stamey and Carroll Stamey; two daughters, Barbara Harmon and Lois Cassidy; a brother and a grandson. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Barnes is survived by her husband, Robert C. Barnes; a daughter, Louise O’Neal of Waynesville; seventeen grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Ebb Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
