Asheville Butterfly TrailEric James Crowder, 31, of Arden, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 28, 2019 in his residence.
Born in Buncombe County, he was the son of James Eugene and Kathy (Hills) Crowder of Arden. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Hills, and 2 uncles, Michael and Jeff Hills.
Eric most recently worked for Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. as a security officer. Prior to that, he was a Henderson County Deputy for 5 years.
Eric’s children, Bryce, James, and Cecily were his world. He loved the outdoors, especially hiking and fishing. An Atlanta Braves and Carolina Panthers fan, Eric was well-loved by his friends and family.
In addition to his children and his parents, he is survived by a brother and his wife, Tommy and Jessica of Mills River; maternal grandmother, Nancy Hills of Arden; paternal grandparents, James and Marie Crowder of Arden; nephew Canaan; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his beloved dog, Hermes.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, August 2, 2019 at Progress Baptist Church, 1935 N. Rugby Rd., Hendersonville, NC 28791 with Rev. Doug Raynes officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends will be received at the church 2 hours prior to the service.
Memorial contributions in Eric’s memory may be made to the church at the address above.

My friend, my brother in blue, my crutch…. when you and I met in the patrol room of henderson county sheriffs office and I was introduced as your training officer, I never would have thought that task would have turned into such a deep friendship. Sometimes I was hard on you in training but I just wanted to keep you standing when things turned bad. As true as gravity, we had those nights that it indeed turned bad. Sadly after my retirement and we parted ways both of our worlds got very difficult . Here is where you truly shined, you were a good deputy…. but you were a great friend! We have shared , breakfast, memories , laughs and many tears. I love you brother, I know you adored those babies. I was hoping we could finally get out to deer hunt this fall. But I will keep my head up , my shoulders back…. I will see you again! God speed Eric. My prayers to the family, I am here if I can do anything for them!
