Ernest Robinson

April 9, 1919 ~ April 10, 2007
Resided in:
Candler, NC
Ernest Robinson began his life in South Hominy in 1919, and passed away not far from his boyhood home on Monday, April 10, 2007, one day after his 88th birthday. Candler was his home for most of his life, but during World War II, he worked for the Dept. of Defense welding Liberty Ships in Wilmington, NC, where he met his bride, Eva Mae Wilson.
Soon after the war, he brought Eva Mae and their children, Ernestine and Clifton, to his mountain home, where he operated Robinson Brothers’ Store until the early 1960s, when he began building homes all over WNC, and even in Canada. His skills gained him great renown and he eventually built a beautiful home for his family from oak he had harvested off of the same land he had hunted on as a boy.
Ernest’s family will remember him as a jack of all trades, and master of quite a few. His children remember his deep love for his family and his grandchildren remember his fresh tomatoes and peeled apples, and the hours he spent fishing with them in his pond.
Mr. Robinson was a son of the late John Murphy and Viola Brooks Robinson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Spurgeon, Floyd, Ralph, G.C. and Harold Robinson, and by his sisters, Elsie Pope and Virginia Davis.
Left behind to follow in his giant footsteps are his wife of 64 years, Eva Mae; children, Ernestine Moody, and Clifton (Ann), Calvin (Bethany) and Paul (Sheila) Robinson; grandchildren include: Kimberly (Louie) Justus, Kyle Moody, David Harrington, Sierra, Meredith and Mackenzie Robinson, and Dillon and Kara Robinson; and great-grandchildren, Kayla and Grant Justus.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Robert E. Harris officiating.
His family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave.
Flowers are appreciated, or donations may be made to ones favorite charity.
