Eugenia "Jean" Goff

Eugenia “Jean” Goff died October 4th, 2025. She was born May 28th, 1938, in Houma, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Captain Leonard Cary Saurage and Jane (Conway) Jolly and raised by her stepfather Dr. Henry W. Jolly Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 42 years Dr. Jacob Benjamin “JB” Goff, her brother Bob Conway Jolly and her sister Mary Etta Jolly Fizer.

She is survived by sons Cary Millard Goff and Benjamin Henry Goff, her brother Henry William “Bill” Jolly, niece Elizabeth Rose Jolly and her grandchildren Jacob Goff, Riley Goff, and Jessica McCartney.

Jean graduated with a B.A. from Newcomb College, a Master of Social Work from Tulane University in 1965, and a Master’s from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education. She was an NC Certified Master Social Worker who worked in social services for 25 years and as a social services consultant and medical social worker in Statesville, NC for 11 years. She later focused on aging, Alzheimer’s Disease and related disorders, and was a board member of multiple organizations related to aging and worked to provide services and help for those in need.

Jean is remembered as a compassionate, intelligent, loving person and an avid scholar throughout life. Known well to friends and neighbors for her crawfish etouffee and Louisiana cuisine as well as her jovial laugh, love of dogs, singing around the piano, strong chicory coffee and wearing the color green. She will be greatly missed.

Services will be held Thursday, October 16th, at 2:30pm at the Grace Chapel at Simonds Healthcare Center, Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community, 49 Highbridge Crossing, Asheville, NC 28803
