Eugenia Ray Carter, 90, of Asheville, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at JFK Solace Center. Born in Buncombe County to the late Martin L. and Margaret Armstrong Ray, she worked as inspector at Gerber Baby Food Company for 25 years. She was a wonderful cook and made good peach ice cream, jams, jellies and preserves. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was also a faithful member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and also sang in the choir. Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Jack H. Carter, Jr, also one brother and two sisters. Survivors include her children, Dick (Vera) of Apex, Dianne Griffin (Lee R) of Weaverville, Don (Sophie), of Asheville, and Dan (Donna) of Asheville; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and sister, Marion Greeson of Thomasville. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel UMC with Rev. Terry Duckworth, Rev. Kathleen Redeker and Rev. Allen Rash officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to extend a word of thanks to caregivers at John F. Keever Solace Center North Wing and Claire Bridge of Asheville. Memorials may be made to Bethel UMC, 1050 Riceville Rd., Asheville, NC, 28805, or to JFK Solace Center, P.O.
