Eula Faye Stewart Carter, 89, a resident of Etowah and formerly of Ft. Blackmore, VA, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Universal Healthcare Center.

Faye was born July 26, 1932 at Ft. Blackmore in Scott County, VA to the late John Thomas Stewart and Bonnie Mary Flanary Stewart. Faye attended school in Wood, Scott County, VA. She worked for many years as a care provider for special needs children at the Irene Wortham Center in Asheville, NC and later in her life, provided loving care for her husband, Roy.

Faye truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: chatting with family and friends, sewing, golfing, attending church and Bible study with her Sunday School friends, gardening and spending time with her family, and she dearly loved being with her granddaughters.

In addition to her parents, Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Roy H. Carter; brothers, James Monroe Stewart and Mack Flanary Stewart; sisters, Martha Ruth Overbay Cox, Hattie Irene Osborne, Bridgle Marie Addington, Wanda Eva Kaylor, Myrtle Lily Blevins, Alto Kate (Jo) Brickey and Helen Stewart Whittaker Milton.

Faye is survived by her children, Larry Carter (wife Theresa) of Asheville, Lance Carter of Etowah, Carolyn Jackson (husband Charles) of Mills River and Pamela Sprague of Brevard; three granddaughters, Sarah Sprague, Lindsey Sprague Crabtree and Carly Jackson Hensler, as well as one great-grandchild on the way and many nieces, nephews and good friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 3 at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA with Pastor Kemuel Pruitt, of French Broad Baptist Church of Hendersonville, NC officiating.

Flowers are appreciated and may be sent to Carter-Trent Funeral Home’s Kingsport location (520 Watuaga Street, Kingsport, TN 37660) or memorial donations may be made to French Broad Baptist Church, 182 Grandview Lane, Hendersonville NC 28791.

  3. So sorry to see that Mrs Carter has passed, she was such a special lady and she will be missed.

  4. Ms Faye was a special lady. I have known her through the years when she would come with Carolyn and Carly to our church. I loved getting to know her better while attending Carlys wedding in VA. She was a true delight with spunk and sass. The best kind of lady, with a huge heart, and caring, kind nature. I know she will be sorely missed. Prayers lifted for all of her dear family during this time.
