Evelyn Bogle Hooker, 89, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, following a period of declining health.

Born in McComb, MS, in 1911, she had lived in Asheville for most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Joseph B. and Emma Kalusche Bogle, and was married to the late Spencer Otis Hooker.

She was employed by Chakales/Broadway Hosiery Mill for many years and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy B. Morris and her husband Ralph of Asheville; a granddaughter Jennifer S. Ball and her husband Michael; two great-grandsons, Mic and Jim Ball; devoted nieces and nephews, Mary P. Mann and her husband Paul, Joseph Patelidas and his wife Agnes, Katherine P. Frazier and her husband Opie, Jane P. McJunckin and her husband John, William Patelidas and his wife Pat, Thomas Patelidas and his wife Mary Ann, and James Patelidas; ten great-nieces and nephews and ten great-great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 11:00 am Thursday at Green Hills Cemetery with the Revs. Ted Craddock and Ralph Reed officiating.

Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

Memorials may be made to the Children’s Place at Trinity United Methodist Church, 587 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806.

  1. When I was a little girl Mrs. Hooker lived below me on 32 Swannonoa Ave. She was like my grandmother she was so loving and sweet you couldnt find a better person. Her little dog honey kept her company all the time. The family are in my prayers.
