Born in:
Greenville, SC
Resided in:
Asheville, NC
Evelyn Campbell Lankford died suddenly, but peacefully at her home on the morning of August 27, 2024. She was born on June 7, 1944 in Greenville, SC to James and Mary Campbell. She moved to Seneca, SC where she met the love of her life and graduated from high school. She also graduated from cosmetology school. She married G.W. Lankford on July 3, 1965. They later moved to the Asheville, NC area.
Evelyn enjoyed traveling in the states and abroad, especially cruises. She loved going on family beach trips, and insisted on staying ocean front (or else she wasn’t really at the beach.) She went on many camping adventures with family, both in the mountains and at the beach. She marveled at the beautifully colored leaves in the fall as well as flowers of all kinds. She could be seen as somewhat quiet, but could deliver an enthusiastic stage performance when given the opportunity. She was always excited to play with her grandchildren as they grew up, and never hesitated to dress up for a pretend tea party.
She loved God and depended on Him for healing, peace, strength, comfort, and guidance. Over her lifetime, she was involved in many church activities including singing in the choir and in praise groups, playing handbells, and participating in Sunday School and Connect groups. Evelyn treasured her relationship with God, family, and friends above all else.
She is survived by her husband, G.W.; her son, Andy and daughter-in-law, Heather of Harrisonburg, VA; her daughter, Melissa of Charlotte, NC; and her grandchildren, Chloe Walters, Emma and Drew Lankford. She is also survived by her mother, Mary, and brothers, Roddy (Cheryl) and Steve (Linda) Campbell of Seneca, SC. She was preceded in death by her father, James, and brother, Jimmy (Rubynell-living) of Seneca, SC.
A service to celebrate Evelyn’s life will be at Biltmore Church – East Asheville Campus, 801 Fairview Rd., Asheville, NC, on September 21, 2024 at 11 am. The family will receive friends at 10 am before the service.

Dear GW and family, I am so sorry for loss but Heavan is gaining. I was deeply saddened to hear about Evelyn’s passing. She was such a kind and wonderful person and neighbor to me, and I know how much she meant to you and your family. I always admired the special bond you shared; she truly seemed like the love of your life.
As you know, if Melissa wasn’t at home when I came around often I would just hang out with Evelyn instead. I enjoyed knowing her, she will be dearly missed.
While it’s hard to say goodbye, I find comfort in knowing that Evelyn is now in heaven, peacefully, and joyously with Jesus. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything. I’m here for you.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Robert Burke
