Faye Van Hook Davis
April 23, 1905 ~ July 25, 1999
A native of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar A. and Elizabeth 'Miss Lizzie' Garland Van Hook. She was preceded in death by her husbands Locke Craig Davis in 1937 and J. Patrick Davis in 1955, a daughter Peggy Elizabeth Ledbetter in 1937; her son Charles RobRoy Ledbetter in 1998; her brothers, E.A. Van Hook, Jr. in 1915, Charlie Van Hook in 1918, and Russell Van Hook in 1983; and her sister Ruth Van Hook Smart in 1988.
Mrs. Davis was a hard worker all her life. She taught school at Union School in Macon County when it was a two teacher school. After living in Ohio and Kansas, she moved to Upper Hominy in the 1930's to work at Pisgah View Ranch. She was employed as a District Manager for the Spencer Corset Company, and in her later years, was a self-employed poultry farmer. She was a member of
Piney Mountain United Methodist Church and once served as a registrar for the Buncombe County Board of Elections.
She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Davis Hutchinson of Candler, with whom she lived, and her son Belton Edgar Davis of Arden; fourteen
grandchildren, Jerrie Lea Cole of Chapel Hill, Karen Cole Brooks of Maggie Valley, Jean Hutchinson Long of the home, Jean Ledbetter Backstrom and Susan Ledbetter Wainess of Valencia, CA, Charles Robert Ledbetter of Denver, CO, James Edgar Davis of Virginia Beach, VA, Lynn Davis Cathers of London, KY, Lisa Davis George and Craig Welch Davis of East Bernstadt, KY,
and Vonda Faye, Joshua Locke, Brian Edgar and Judy Krystal Davis of Somerset, KY; seventeen great- grandchildren, including Dakota Andrew Smith and Magnolia Sunshine Long of the home; and one great-great granddaughter.
Graveside services will be held at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church Cemetery at 3:30 pm Monday, with the Reverend Austin Watts officiating.
