Frances Cleo Johnson Rice, 73, of Candler, passed away Wednesday September 5, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.
Frances was born April 9, 1945 in Madison County to the late Floyd and Mae Elkins Johnson. She was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She graduated class of 1963 from Owen High School and worked for Mills Manufacturing in Woodfin for almost 35 years before retiring. Her favorite hobbies included gardening, raising flowers and reading.
She was proceeded in death by sisters Pansy Hooper and Grace Edmonds and infant daughter, Mary Frances Rice.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 49 years, Jerry H. Rice; daughter, Jennifer Showalter and husband Terry; son, Joshua Rice and wife Ava; grandchildren, Brianna Rice, Rodney Pressley and wife Heather, Logan Pressley and fiancé Marissa, Dakota Pressley, Chelsee Showalter, Melanie Showalter and fiancé DJ, Jacob Showalter and Jasmine Showalter; great-grandchildren, Easton Pressley, Damian McKenzie, Stefan Mckenzie and Kylee Showalter; sisters, Bobbie Edwards and Alma Sprouse; and brothers, Carl and Ed Johnson, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 6-8 p.m at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave, Asheville, NC.
The funeral service will be Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave, Asheville, NC.
Burial will be in the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery, Candler, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Groce Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses. Information is listed below under "Charities."
