Franklin Clyde Hammer, 82, of 20 Dogwood Knoll, Asheville, died Wednesday, December, 1, 1999, at
Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center.

A native of Randolph County, he was a son of the late Gurney Harrison and Gertrude Cox Hammer. He was a
veteran of W.W.II; a member of the Hominy Masonic Lodge # 491 where he served as Master Mason; a
member of the W.N.C. Home Builders Association and the Asheville Board of Realtors. He was very active in the Enka-Candler community for 40 years,
and was a major developer of Woodside Hills. Mr. Hammer was elected Environmentalist Home Builder of the Year 1976 and WNC Home Builder of the Year 1977.

He is survived by his wife Frances Tomberlin Hammer; daughters, Dr. Delores Hammer of
Newton, NC, Patricia Elaine Roberts of Decatur, AL; a son Franklin C. Hammer Jr. of Hickory, NC; three sisters, Mabel Shropshire, Hazel Hammer and Ruth Winkler of Greensboro; three brothers, Earl
Hammer, Obert Hammer and Gurney Hammer Jr. all of Greensboro; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the
Reverend Dr. James H. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.


His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
